The ‘ecology of fear’ describes the psychological impact that predator-induced stress felt by animals has on their experience of the surroundings. It can be extended to PTSD symptoms on former soldiers, manifesting as recurring nightmares. Disintegrating the pov footage of an ambush on a US soldier in Afghanistan into ectoplasmic shapes similar to photopsia, the project reflects on how trauma can physically define the subject’s mental environment, turning it into an angsty sensory space.
