The fish swims upstream to spawn. Because of the river’s pollution, the fish falls into a disease which causes its body to decay during its lifetime. It dies while giving the last act of procreation. Death and the act of procreation penetrate each other during lifetime.
The fish that were recorded and photographed are from the Słupia River in Pomerania, Poland, but they are not unique in their plight.
Take heed of Western societies’ pace and greed, and see how our ambitions, in our haste, wreak havoc. The image, now enlarged and clear, of sickly fish bodies combined, fluttering like drying fish filets, bares what is rotten. It is a certain piece of the ecosystem, which reflects what we do not see on a daily basis, because it is hidden under water.
Bon appetit, until then.
