Wagner and de Burca have created a corpus of works that pose dance on camera as a moving image art, and Swinguerra demonstrates this at its most mesmerising and vibrant. Through the frame of a dance battle, the film proposes a version of Brazil in the midst of Bolsonaro’s regime where plural gender identities, sexualities, races, and ethnicities are visible and full of expressive force.
